Job Description:
The Centre Academic Staff Development is located within the DAPQPASD. It provides theoretically informed, research-based, high-quality guidance and support for academic staff. Current work encompasses the induction of academic staff, both newly appointed lecturers and Heads of Departments; teaching the postgraduate diploma in higher Education, student and peer evaluation of teaching; and the broad goal of promoting excellence in teaching and learning in the UJ through the development of knowledge-based curricula and innovative pedagogies, within a framework of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist academic staff with innovation in teaching, learning and assessment
- Develop own research to inform practice;
- Any other duties as required by the Director of the CASD
- Provide guidance on portfolio development for promotion
- Assist with the implementation development in teaching and learning in faculties
- Participate in activities in the Centre and across DAPQPASD
- Initiate and implement professional academic staff development programmes;
- Create and implement development opportunities for staff that arise from teaching and module evaluation;
Job Requirements:
- Commitment to research, preferably in the field of academic/staff development
- Excellent written, oral and electronic communication skills, especially in English
- Working knowledge of the South African Higher Education environment
