Job Description:

HOPE worldwide SA (HWSA) is a national NGO working in Early Childhood Development. HWSA is seeking a qualified, Senior Programme Manager (SPM) to lead a Learning through Play (LtP) project in South Africa. The project will be implemented by a consortium of NGOs. The Senior Programme Manager will report directly to HWSA’s Deputy Country Director and will ensure the overall management of the project and oversee the implementation of key project activities throughout the targeted provinces. The SPM will also oversee the work of the technical team and consortium partners and provide efficient project and operational support for the project team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all targets are met as per the SLA with the Funder
  • Management of ACKS team and ensuring that they achieve activities in line with implementation plans
  • Ability to represent the CLTP Program at high level events
  • Leading the CLTP Consortium to drive the objectives of the CLTP Program
  • Oversee the MERL part of the program and ensure adherence to program requirements
  • Manage and support the Caregiver Project Officer to ensure that targets are met in line with objective 1
  • Develop and manage the Business Plan and Implementation plans
  • Ensuring the appropriate staffing of the technical team,
  • Uphold all HWSA Policies and procedures to project team
  • Ability to understand program objectives and ensure that they are met in line with deliverables
  • Ensuring strong relationships with the donor, consortium partners and other relevant stakeholders including government,
  • Developing and managing implementation plans,
  • Ensuring careful programme monitoring and the technical implementation of high impact,
  • Manage and Support Practitioner Project Officer to ensure that targets for Deliverable 2 are met
  • Submission of reports as per given timelines
  • Manage a project team of over 20 staff members
  • Financial reporting and budgeting of CLTP Program
  • Plan and manage community and stakeholder engagements and events
  • Ensuring curriculum development,
  • Proven interventions that meet stated goals and reporting requirements,
  • Problem solving skills
  • Stakeholder management and building strong relationships
  • Ability to understand technical matters around curriculum development and design

Job Requirements:

  • Proven leadership experience in managing stakeholders, or NGOs
  • Clean Background of working with children programmes
  • ECD Qualification/skills
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills including report writing. Verbal and written communication in isiZulu, Tswana, Sesotho or Xhosa will be advantageous
  • Proven leadership experience in managing over 20 people, teams, and programmes
  • Experience in play programmes
  • Strong Monitoring & Evaluation and IT skills, including relevant computer literacy in MS Office.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including cultural sensitivity

Qualification & Experience:

  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Management of teams of more than 20 teams
  • Evidence of successfully completing programmes with desired results in different organisations
  • Matric
  • Program Management experience
  • Relevant Post graduate degree in Social Sciences or related field; Project Management qualification, ECD Qualification and LtP training will be an advantage.
  • Own Vehicle
  • Relevant Degree in Project Management, HRD, Social Sciences and relevant fields
  • Minimum 10 years’ senior-level experience in the NGO and ECD sectors in South Africa
  • Budget and financial Management
