Job Description:
The role of the Scrum Master is to facilitate the removal of impediments and foster an environment for high-performing team dynamics, continuous flow, and relentless improvement. The Scrum Master’s primary responsibility is assisting the self-organizing, self-managing team achieve its goals.
Job Responsibilities:
- Communication to the team and outside of the team.
- Ensure agile processes are followed and work with the teams to help them adopt the process that works best for the team.
- Stakeholder management.
- Consults on IT strategy and architecture from technical and business perspectives.
- Provide progress updates to relevant stakeholders.
- Update agile tracking systems to provide transparency on Product & Sprint Backlogs.
- Provides technical and solutions advice.
- Aligns across other teams at Scrum of Scrums to improve overall programme delivery.
- Adapt delivery plans, schedules, and resource assignments as required throughout projects to respond to emerging requirements and risks.
- Improve the productivity of the teams in any way possible.
- Ensure project teams are practising the core principles of collaboration, prioritization, team accountability, and visibility.
- Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.
- Facilitate preparation and readiness for ART events.
- Support the business outcome owners and delivery teams as necessary.
- Identify and remove impediments, prevent distractions that interfere with the ability of the team to deliver the sprint goal.
- Risk and issue identification and management.
- Assist team with making appropriate commitments through story selection, task definition.
- Recommend improvements and assist in changes to best practice.
- Organize and facilitate project planning, daily stand-up meetings, reviews, retrospectives, sprint and release planning and demos.
Job Requirements:
- Professional facilitation skills to empower the team through facilitation.
- Ideally, experience of running distributed teams and distributed agile.
- Exceptional listening, written and verbal communication skills including exceptional client facing/consulting skills.
- Ability to run and facilitate core meetings and activities: Backlog Refinement, Sprint Planning, story writing, sizing, prioritising, Daily stand ups,
- Sprint Reviews and Sprint Retrospectives.
- Experience in software development projects.
- JIRA/Confluence experience (or other relevant tools). Making work visible though a Sprint board.
- Stakeholder Management, Negotiation & Communication Skills.
- Understand the value of team metrics and keep track of them to drive team performance.
Qualification & Experience:
- Knowledge of agile methodology and frameworks like Scrum, Kanban, Scaled Agile (SAFe) etc.
- Successfully applied Agile/XP/Scrum practices and introduced Agile techniques and have coached teams to apply them effectively.
- Very strong technical background either as a Business Analyst, Software Developer, Quality Analyst or Project Manager.
- Matric certificate with relevant qualification.
- Good understanding of business IT.
- Proficient in managing scope in an Agile project and facilitating the user story lifecycle in close collaboration with the customer/Business
- Outcome Owner, including breaking down complex requirements into independent user stories, capturing detailed acceptance criteria, building a release plan with user, managing the backlog, running showcases.
