Job Description:

Reporting to the Manager, Contact Engineering, you will be responsible to provide technical support to operations to maintain safe and environmentally responsible production. This role has a wide scope to utilize a range of technical skills in an effort to optimize plant operations, identify improvement opportunities to improve asset performance and utilization, and provide required field level technical support during plant maintenance and turnarounds.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct vessel inspections of various equipment; naphtha recovery unit, inclined plate settlers, froth heaters etc…
  • Provide technical feedback into process inspection scopes and support turnaround/outage through process studies and evaluations from inspection findings
  • Develop and sustain safe operating limits, standard limits and targets used for daily process and equipment monitoring
  • Provide expert level advice during pre-startup safety reviews when required
  • Development of process trials, facilitation of risk reviews in collaboration with operations for plant improvements
  • Support operations in reviewing technical content in operating procedures
  • Evaluate opportunities for improvement of reliability, availability, and utilization of assets
  • Daily monitoring of process units and provide recommendations for process set point changes to maintain product quality specifications
  • Facilitate risk assessments such as HAZOP
  • Facilitate effective communication, collaboration, and transfer of information within a cross-functional team, broader projects team, and across the company
  • Mentor junior engineers and support them in their development
  • Determine engineering scopes and test plans related to sustaining projects
  • Ensure process designs minimize hazards, achieve the desired intent, minimize costs, and adhere to relevant internal and external industry standards

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to provide personal and technical mentorship to junior staff members
  • Sound knowledge of the oil sands business and processes
  • Ability to plan and organize work; take initiative to ensure that work assignments and tasks are completed on time and correctly
  • Well-developed critical thinking, with an ability to apply logic and challenge assumptions, conclusions and make appropriate recommendations
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • You collaborate with others in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value

Qualification & Experience:

  • Five or more years of experience in the oil and gas or similar industry; experience within oil sands operation is an asset
  • A multidisciplinary background in engineering, maintenance and operations, particularly start-up and commissioning, is an asset
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mineral Process Engineering
