Job Description:

Role of the Information Governance Specialist is to manage the Information Governance programme, to ensure compliance with the requirements, national standards, guidance and legislation on information and implement and manage the Information Governance Framework (IGF) of the NWU. The incumbent must utilise specialist information governance knowledge, skills, and experience to strategically position the NWU in terms of Information Governance within the higher education sector.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring clear roles and responsibilities for information management and security are in place, supported by robust policies and procedures, including a framework to protect university information against unauthorised access/use, compromise of assets and interruption of University activities
  • Ensuring information procedures comply with the relevant legislation
  • Ensuring that the University complies with the principles of information governance principles for Good Corporate Governance as identified in the King IV Report on Corporate Governance.
  • Ensuring that information risks are assessed appropriately
  • Ensuring appropriate training is available to all staff members
  • Evaluation of stakeholder needs to determine balanced, agreed-on university objectives, which are to be achieved through the acquisition and management of information resources
  • Setting direction for information management capabilities through prioritisation and decision-making
  • Monitoring the performance and compliance of the information resources against agreed-on direction and objectives
  • Ensuring robust arrangements for, and learning from, information related incidents such as data breaches or losses;

Job Requirements:

  • Evidence of having attended short courses/workshop related to PAIA and POPIA
  • Planning and implementing an Information Governance Framework in a medium to large organisation
  • Implementation and interpretation of information-based legislation, codes and regulations
  • Understanding of and ability to interpret POPIA and PAIA legislation and to practically apply information solutions to legislative aspects

Qualification & Experience:

  • Advanced Diploma or Degree in Law or Information Science or related field at NQF Level 7.
  • Practical work experience in the information governance field, with demonstrable capability in the following areas (but not limited to):
