Job Description:
The Senior Director of Accounting is responsible for overseeing Walgreens’ accounting functions for fixed assets and project accounting, investments in third parties, Walgreens’ E-commerce business, and internal financial reporting. Oversees and directs the development and implementation of systems, internal controls, procedures and policies on Walgreens’ accounts and activities; ensuring compliance with GAAP and Walgreens Company policies and procedures; reporting and reviewing the monthly accounting results with finance leadership and senior management.
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversees and directs accounting function and all related accounting activity for the relevant business units.
- Works with the Accounting Shared Services function to ensure the proper recording of business transactions.
- Works closely with the external public accountants in planning and executing the annual audit for Walgreens’ business units.
- Establishes project teams, assigns responsibilities, and facilitates meetings to ensure timely goal attainment.
- Ensures compliance with accounting principles and adherence with company policy in the business units; implements new policies as necessary
- Mentors, coaches, and develops employees through orientation, training, establishment of objectives, communication of policies and rules, and constructive discipline; builds morale and motivation.
- Supports the development and implementation of accounting systems and controls; directs the documentation of accounting procedures; ensures implementation of requisite system changes to support the business units and new programs.
- Directs and controls the general accounting activities, including monthly close activities, recording company transactions, classifications, key judgments and reconciliation of account balances in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
- Assists with various special projects, new business initiatives, M&A and other ad hoc requirements on behalf of the accounting function.
- Works closely with finance and business unit leadership to ensure appropriate understanding and interpretation of financial results.
Job Requirements:
Qualification & Experience:
- Experience developing and delivering presenting to various audience levels within an organization.
- Bachelor’s Degree and at least 8 years’ experience in corporate, business unit accounting, or controller role OR High School Diploma and at least 11 years’ experience in corporate, business unit accounting or controller role.
- Ability to clearly articulate an issue or point of view to a varied audience.
- At least 5 years’ experience building, managing, mentoring, and leading teams through change in a large, complex environment, including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.
- Proven leadership and business partnership skills with ability to manage and influence organizations.
- Expert knowledge and understanding of GAAP and financial statement preparation, analysis, and reporting.
